The new EN standard
On December 1st 2003, BS 5328, the current standard for concrete, was
withdrawn.
BS EN 206-1
In place of BS 5328 is the first step towards the harmonisation of a
European standard for concrete; EN 206-1 - the standard for specification,
performance, production and conformity.
BS 8500
Because of national variations, individual countries are required to
apply national provisions. In the UK these national provisions are given
in BS 8500 which is the complementary standard to BS EN 206-1.
Bardon Concrete will supply to these new standards from 1 January 2004,
to coincide with changes to the new EN standards for aggregates.
Why change?
This
is the first generation CEN standard and makes a substantial step towards
common standards for concrete in Europe. It also removes major barriers
for cross-border trading within Europe.
