BARDON CONCRETE’S DIAMONDCRETE IS TOUGH ENOUGH FOR ALBION CHEMICALS
Aggregate Industries’ ready-mixed concrete business, Bardon Concrete in Central Scotland has supplied over 200m³ of conventional and high-performance concrete to local company Albion Chemicals for the construction of its new storage and distribution depot in Cambuslang.
Having spent more than 160 years at the company’s original Tradeston site in Glasgow, the company decided it was time to move - designing and building a purpose-built facility that perfectly suits the current and future needs of the growing business.
Regional special products manager for Bardon Concrete, Neil Cochrane, said: “The client’s brief called for a concrete that was able to resist a variety of alkaline and acidic chemicals.
“Following discussions with the engineer and main contractor, it was decided that Diamondcrete AE, a high-strength, chemically resisting proprietary concrete, would offer the best fit in terms of in-situ performance and whole-life cost.”
Unlike sulphate resisting concrete (SRPC) which is costly, difficult to obtain and problematical to store, Diamondcrete AE concrete is quick setting and has high strength with a fast turnaround time, setting to a specific strength within as little as 24 hours. |
