BARDON CONCRETE HELPS TO EXPAND RECYCLING FACILITIES IN GLASGOW
Aggregate Industries’ ready-mixed concrete business, Bardon Concrete has supplied over 200m³ of high specification concrete from its Shettleston plant in Glasgow, to build a new recycling centre, helping to increase the amount of household waste that is recycled and in turn reducing the need for disposal into landfill sites .
The centre, which is part of a £24 million investment by East Dunbartonshire Council, has been constructed in the Mavis Valley area of Glasgow and is included in the vast extension of the main civic amenity site, keeping all local services under one roof.
Neil Cochrane, regional special products manager at Bardon Concrete Northern, said: “The expansion of the site not only creates more space and a greater capacity for recycling, but also provides a safer and more user-friendly environment for householders to dispose of their unwanted waste.
“The new and modern facility is now able to recycle over 1,268 tonnes of waste, processing a further 2,189 tonnes of biodegradable waste for composting.”
By opening the new Mavis Valley recycling site, the area will be one step closer to meeting the Government’s target of recycling 25 per cent of waste by late 2006.
