BARDON CONCRETE TEAM REACHES NEW HEIGHTS
TO REPAIR RAIL VIADUCTS
A team effort from Bardon Concrete’s Lancaster and Carlisle plants
and its technical department has ensured a viaduct contract was successfully
planned, managed and completed for Story Rail. Bardon Concrete supplied
more than 360 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete to repair two viaducts
on the Carlisle to Settle railway line near Garsdale station in the Yorkshire
Dales. The rural location, height and tight window of opportunity for
the two separate pours meant it would be difficult to supply.
Adam Wilcox, Business Manager of Bardon Concrete, explains: “A
detailed method statement was prepared which illustrated how we could
successfully manage the job. This included working with our technical
team to meet the client’s specified concrete strengths and the logistics
of getting the required loads to the site in a small time frame, partly
after hours. Ready-mixed concrete needed to be pumped to a height of 20
metres from the road to carry out the refurbishment works, which we achieved
utilising a fully extended 42-metre concrete pump and 140 metres of steel
pipe.”
The project included pours at Aisgill Viaduct using 14 trucks and a
second pour at Lund Viaduct using 15 trucks, working throughout the night
to complete the project.
As a result of the efforts and professionalism of everyone involved,
the Bardon Concrete team has been awarded a further contract, to ensure
the same standards and satisfactory conclusion.
