BARDON CONCRETE BUILDS LOVE NEST FOR BIRDS

Bardon Concrete has donated 4m3 of concrete to the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust to build a wall and encourage sand martins to breed.

The concrete was delivered to the Trust’s Kelham Bridge nature reserve in Ibstock near Leicester earlier this year. Bardon Concrete Plant Manager, Nigel Hall, commented: “This is a great project for Bardon Concrete as we are both helping the local environment and building good relations with our Coalville depot.”

Although artificial, concrete walls are an ideal place for Sand Martins to breed as they provide valuable shelter and protection. Sand Martins migrate from Africa to Britain in the summer and are about the same size as a swallow. They can live for up to nine years and are commonly found in sandy river banks and quarries.
